Micropipette Kit

Explore how to move very small volumes of liquid (measured in microliters, µl, or 1/1000th of a milliliters) using a micropipette. Micropipetting very small metric volumes is essential for working with DNA samples, reagents, and enzymes.

Kit Descriptions

This kit contains 4 sets of micropipettes of varying sizes (P10, P20, P200, P1000) and practice solutions, allowing students to compare different volumes measured with different micropipettes. SEP has 3 Micropipette Kits.

  • Each kit has 1 crate
  • 8 micropipettes of each volume range
  • All consumables necessary (tips, tubes, etc)
  • Labs are designed for 8 groups of 4 students (32 students total). Make sure to tell us if your class is significantly different in size

 Ranges: P10, P20, P200, P1000

Intro to Micropipetting

In this lesson, students are introduced to micropipetting. They will explore the 2-stops on a micropipette, the various ranges of different micropipettes, and how to read and adjust the volume.

Interactive Lab to Learn Pipetting
From BioNetwork. Select an avatar who will be the new quality assurance professional at a biotech company. Check out the pipetting techniques of staff and coach their performance.

Pipette by Numbers or Pipette Pointillism is a fun way to learn micropipetting skills using acrylic paints. This activity was developed by the World Biotech Tour.

The Finn Micropipettes are not used in any of the micropipette kits, but here is a reference for teachers using Gel #11 or borrowing extra pipettes.
