Developing the Next Generation of Hematology and Oncology Leaders
The mission of our ACGME-accredited fellowship is to provide an environment to develop the next generation of leaders in the fields of hematology and oncology. By utilizing resources and mentors across multiple institutions we have developed a dynamic program individualized to the goals and experiences of each trainee. Our major focus is the preparation of fellows for burgeoning academic careers in basic science, translational research, clinical research and specialty areas such as global health and comparative effectiveness research.
Program Aims
- Clinical Training: To provide foundational, adaptable, and flexible clinical experiences that address the broad needs of fellow trainees, while remaining mindful of work-life balance and ensuring time for reflection, decompression, and self-care.
- Research: To take advantage of networked institutions to provide individualized and collaborative research experiences across basic, translational, and clinical sciences, including quality improvement.
- Mentorship: To provide appropriate and directed mentorship to ensure fellows achieve their clinical, research, and career goals, including training to ultimately become leaders in academic Hematology-Oncology.
- Faculty Development: To continuously improve faculty proficiency and engagement in high-quality bedside teaching and didactic education.

Comprehensive Clinical Training
The fellow’s experience in our program is rooted in comprehensive inpatient and outpatient clinical training and development of teaching skills, particularly during fulltime rotations over the course of 12 months (for single-boards eligibility) or 18 months (for dual-boards eligibility).
Continuity and disease-focused outpatient clinics provide graduated responsibilities in the management of patients with a broad range of disorders, including hematologic malignancies, classical hematology, blood and marrow transplantation (BMT), and solid tumor oncology. Enhanced experiences in transfusion medicine, cellular therapy, hemostasis/thrombosis and bone marrow failure are available through specialized tracks in the Hematology Focused Fellowship Training Program pathway.
