We offer advanced cell sorters from BD Biosciences, Sony Biotechnology and Miltenyi Biotec that allow for live-cell sorting of a variety of cell types.

Cell sorting is considered a laboratory procedure hazard due to its potential for aerosol production. All sorters are housed in Class IIA biosafety cabinets to reduce the risk of exposure. However, pathogens designated as Risk Group 2 (RG2) require approval from the Institutional Biosafety Committee and will be approved on a case-by-case basis. Any sample exposed to agents higher than RG2 may not be handled in this facility unless fixed by methods verified as effective against the infectious agent.

Cell Analyzers

The Sony ID 7000F is a high-parameter spectral cell analyzer with seven lasers and 186 detectors, making it one of the most advanced cytometers in the world. By collecting the entire spectrum of light from 360 nm to 920 nm, this cutting-edge cytometer allows for accurate detection of dim and rare cell populations with high sensitivity.

Sony ID 7000F Instrument

The BD FACSymphony A5 is an innovative and customized cell analyzer with five lasers allowing up to 28 colors simultaneously. This cytometer enables users to analyze complex fluorochrome panels with high accuracy. Two of our instruments, Symphony 3 and Symphony 5, can also be configured for spectral analysis (SE), which allows for more flexibility in your panel design.

BD FACSymphony A5

The BD LSRFortessa X-50 is an innovative and customized cell analyzer with five lasers allowing up to 28 colors simultaneously. This specialized cytometer also can be configured for spectral analysis, which allows for more flexibility in your panel design.

BD LSRFortessa X-50

The BD FACSCelesta is a custom cell analyzer with four lasers allowing up to 16 colors simultaneously. This powerful, compact instrument allows for a large panel while maintaining ease of use.

The Cytek Aurora is a full spectrum high parameter cell analyzer equipped with 5 lasers and 64 detectors. The Aurora system delivers high-resolution data at the single-cell level to resolve the most challenging cell populations, such as cells with high autofluorescence or low levels of expression of key biomarkers, regardless of assay complexity.

Cell Sorters

The BD FACSDiscoverTM S8 with CellViewTM image technology is the first spectral flow cytometer sorter with sort-capable image analysis, expanding the power of cell analysis and sorting to new dimensions by combining spectral flow cytometry with real-time spatial and morphological insights—empowering scientists to address previously impossible-to-answer questions. Please contact our team to learn more about how to design panels to best utilize the full instrument capabilities.

BD Aria II Instrument

The BD FACSymphony S6 is an innovative and customized cell sorter with five lasers allowing up to 28 colors simultaneously. This cell sorter allows for six-way sorting and into variously sized tubes and multi-well plates. This device has spectral capabilities, please contact our team for more information.

BD FACSymphony S6

The Sony MA900 is a cell sorter is an innovative and intuitive cell sorter with four lasers allowing up to 12 colors simultaneously. This cell sorter is notable for its ease of use even for less experienced users.

CyTOF Services

The Fluidigm Helios CyTOF mass spectrometry system enables analysis of more than 40 cell surface and intracellular markers without the spectral overlap seen in conventional flow cytometers. Learn more by downloading the user guide below.

Data Analysis

The Flow Cytometry core does not provide licenses for data analysis software packages, such as FlowJo. For Fred Hutch employees, FlowJo and Cytek SpectroFlo is available on the shared computer workstation at both the Steam Plant and Thomas flow cytometry core locations. Licenses for FlowJo can be obtained through Scientific Computing for use on personal computers.
