What do you value most about your work?

My patients face challenges that require them to use every support system they have, so I see what it really means to love and be there with someone through difficult times. I cherish being a part of that connectivity, and I am heartened by the strength such support creates in both patients and their loved ones.

What brought you to oncology?

I was an oncology research coordinator before medical school, and what really drew me to the field was the complexity of cancer — both in terms of our treatment strategies and how this process interacts with a patient’s individual circumstances and experiences.

Learning you have cancer or undergoing surgery are some of the biggest events in a person’s life. It’s always difficult to have conversations with people who are hearing their diagnosis for the first time or are navigating through their treatment plan. In oncology, we live with that ongoing reality and strive to normalize it for patients and allow them to maintain a high quality of life. These concepts remain central to my clinical practice and research endeavors today.
