Elisabeth Geschiere, MDiv

When I did my chaplain internship, it felt new and familiar at the same time. I recognized that this way of being with people — deep listening, practicing love and compassion and providing space to sit with what’s challenging, deep or mysterious — is how I’ve always been wired to show up with and for people throughout my life.

I love those “aha” moments when people identify and articulate a feeling or thought for the first time in the presence of another human being. I also love when patients and I laugh together. Laughter is such good medicine.

I joined the Fred Hutch Spiritual Health team in 2022. I serve patients at the South Lake Union Clinic and Fred Hutch at EvergreenHealth, as well as by telehealth and phone. At EvergreenHealth, I serve all patients. At the South Lake Union Clinic, I primarily serve five clinics (gastrointestinal, autologous bone marrow transplant, immunotherapy, genitourinary and endocrine) and all patients as needed.

In my free time, I love spending time outdoors, hiking, biking, dancing, camping, eating and especially swimming, alone or with family and friends. I swim in the Salish Sea year-round.

Patient Care Philosophy

I strive to show up as my full human self in order to provide a safe space and opportunity for patients, families and staff to be their full human selves. I do my best not to make assumptions, but to be really curious about people’s stories, values, beliefs and needs.
