I started working at Fred Hutch in 2019. Currently, I see patients at Fred Hutch Cancer Center – South Lake Union on Tuesdays, and I see patients remotely at Fred Hutch Cancer Center – Peninsula on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
While pursuing psychology for my bachelor’s degree, I noticed how my diet of cafeteria food was affecting my energy, my focus and my overall health. Initially, my nutrition journey started simply to improve my own personal health. As I started to take basic nutrition classes, it really bothered me that not everyone had access to this information, and I felt a strong desire to teach others about how the foods we eat can impact so many aspects of our lives.
I learned about Bastyr University and their holistic approach to nutrition and ultimately attended Bastyr for both my master’s program and dietetic internship. During my internship, I was impressed by my rotation at Fred Hutch. Prior to becoming a certified specialist in oncology nutrition, I spent time working with patients with eating disorders and disordered eating patterns.
Meeting with an oncology dietitian can be so impactful at all stages of the cancer continuum from prevention through treatment and survivorship. I feel so privileged to be able to have these conversations and counsel patients about this.
Outside of work, I enjoy time spent with my family and my little ones whether it’s cooking together or listening to music. You might also find me at a live music show, anything from bluegrass to classic rock will do.
Clinical Expertise
At the South Lake Union Clinic, I primarily focus on HIPEC surgery, sarcoma and gastrointestinal patients. At the Peninsula Clinic, I see patients with a wide variety of diseases and treatments such as gastrointestinal, head and neck, hematology, breast, prostate and more.
Patient Care Philosophy
Patient-centered care is how I try to approach all my visits. I am intentional in asking what questions or concerns you have at the beginning of every visit to ensure I am addressing those first. It is also very important to me to consider your own journey and experience with food, to learn about your preferences and dislikes, and to support those while delivering evidence-based recommendations.
