Mythili Merchant, MS, CGC

Mythili Merchant Portrait

I have been working at Fred Hutch since 2024 and provide genetic counseling for a variety of hereditary cancer syndromes.

My passion for cancer genetic counseling is driven by the immense potential it holds for preventative medicine and in turn, the opportunity it presents to improve health outcomes for some of the most devastating illnesses. My favorite aspects of being a genetic counselor are the opportunities it offers me to hear my patients’ stories, support them through periods of uncertainty and practice precision medicine. I have a special interest in increasing access to genetic counseling services for underrepresented populations, both nationally and globally.

Outside of work, I enjoy traveling, discovering new coffee shops, trying out new cooking recipes at home and watching Bollywood movies!

Patient Care Philosophy

Our personal life experiences shape our view of the world and the kinds of decisions we make, so I strive to partner with my patients and make sure they feel seen and heard during our time together. Genetics can be overwhelming and confusing, so it is my goal to simplify it as much as possible so that my patients feel empowered to make well-informed health care decisions.
