I first started providing genetic counseling services to Fred Hutch patients in 2012 at UW Medical Center and officially joined Fred Hutch in 2016. I see patients at the South Lake Union Clinic and see all disease types, but have a special interest in gastrointestinal oncology.
I became a genetic counselor because I wanted to work in a health care field that was growing and consistently changing, and also be in a specialty that allowed me to spend more time with my patients and their families. I love seeing how genetic testing results can now affect cancer treatment and hopefully provide better outcomes for patients.
I have also been the genetic counseling supervisor at Fred Hutch since 2020 and have worked in cancer genetics since 2009.
Outside of work, I like to travel, watch documentaries, read novels, chase after my son and ride my Peloton.
Patient Care Philosophy
I address each patient individually and hope to change my approach based on what that patient needs. Genetics is a confusing subject and all patients find different aspects of it important. I like to be able to adapt and tailor appointments to meet each patient’s needs.
I try to make all of my patient interactions a conversation. I don’t want it to feel overwhelming and I want to make sure and get the patient answers that are important to them.
