Dr. Jared Mayers is a physician-scientist who treats cancer patients’ preexisting pulmonary conditions and pulmonary complications from cancer treatment while running a research laboratory at Fred Hutch. He studies the role of microbes in bloodstream infections, cancer and other diseases. Through these studies, he aims to understand the metabolism of harmful microbes in their natural context with the goal of harnessing his lab’s discoveries for clinical benefit. His techniques draw on clinical sample data and use multi-omics, biochemistry, microbiology and mouse models to investigate microbial contributions to these diseases.
