Kit Description

The kit includes all materials and reagents for running a simulated ELISA assay as well as modeling antibody structure and function. The kit comes with various posters for teaching about antibodies, careers in Global Health and bird migration patterns (for the Avian flu activity) and a large  model to demonstrate the assay.

  • SEP has 4 ELISA Kits
  • Each ELISA Kit has 2 crates
  • Labs are designed for 16 pairs of students (32 total students). Make sure to tell us if your class is significantly different in size.
  • SEP teachers who have their own equipment may request supplies only.

Curriculum and Units Supported by the ELISA Kit

Antibodies attacking a virus

General ELISA

In this lab, students conduct an ELISA assay for any infection or topic of their teacher’s choosing. Students will predict who is most likely to be infected based on risk/exposure information before conducting their analysis.

Red HIV research ribbon

HIV ELISA

In this lab, students conduct an ELISA assay to detect the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) in patient samples. Students will predict who is most likely to be infected based on risk/exposure information before conducting their analysis.

SARS-CoV-2 virus

COVID-19 ELISA

In this lab that is part of a larger COVID-19 unit, students conduct an ELISA assay to detect simulated SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19 and the current pandemic. Students will predict who is mostly likely to be infected based on risk/exposure information before conducting their analysis.
