Services at the South Lake Union Clinic
Phlebotomy services are provided to Fred Hutch patients in the Alliance Lab blood draw area at the South Lake Union Clinic. Blood samples are obtained by peripheral venipuncture, peripherally placed intravenous catheters (PIVs), and central venous access devices, including implanted ports. Alliance Lab nurses may place PIVs and access implanted ports as ordered by physicians for patients undergoing both blood draw, radiological exams and/or infusions on same day appointments at Fred Hutch. The lab also provides technician assistance for bone marrow aspirate specimen collection procedures.
The Alliance Lab is the distribution center for samples with requests for diagnostic tests not performed there. Samples are prepared for transport and sent to the various referral labs including other labs within Fred Hutch, UW Medicine and Seattle Children’s. The Alliance Lab also stores and distributes blood components for transfusion as requested.
The Alliance Lab also performs:
- Hematology tests including complete blood count (CBC) and differentials
- Chemistry tests including electrolytes, proteins, and enzymes
- Coagulation tests
- Urinalysis
- Blood gas analysis
