Christoper Li, MD, PhD
Vice President, Faculty Affairs and Diversity
Dr. Christopher Li serves as the Vice President of Faculty Affairs and Diversity and holds the Helen G. Edson Endowed Chair for Breast Cancer Research at Fred Hutch. Dr. Li's research spans breast and colorectal cancer early detection, screening, etiology, survivorship, and investigating disparities in outcomes as a professor in the Public Health Sciences Division
He is a research professor in the University of Washington Department of Epidemiology and associate director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) for the Fred Hutch/UW/Seattle Children's Cancer Consortium. The Office of Faculty Affairs and Diversity leads Fred Hutch's efforts to increase the diversity among trainees, faculty and leadership across the Consortium to better reflect the diversity of our nation.
Sara Cole
Sara has been with the Hutch since 2017. She currently works as a project manager for the Office of Faculty Affairs and Diversity, leading several programs for underrepresented minority (URM) students and trainees. These include a new partnership with the Dr. Rob Winn Clinical Investigator Pathway Program (CIPP), the Hutch's Dr. Eddie Méndez Postdoctoral Symposium, and most recently coordinating activities for a new CCSG supplement for a Training Navigation program in partnership with several minority serving institutions (MSIs) across the U.S.
Simone Willynck
Simone joined Fred Hutch in 2024 and currently serves as a project coordinator in the Office of Faculty Affairs and Diversity. In her role, she supports initiatives for underrepresented minority (URM) students, trainees, and faculty. With her background in higher education, specifically in recruitment and retention strategies for fostering an inclusive faculty, Simone contributes significant expertise to enhance and expand the Office’s programs.
Maliea Lowe-Hale
Maliea Lowe-Hale has served as Executive Assistant to Chris Li and Fred Appelbaum since 2022. She offers administrative support to the Office of Faculty Affairs and Diversity, Central Faculty Affairs, and the Cancer Center DEI Network. Her previous experience in faculty recruitment, onboarding, and advancement tracking, as well as large-scale event planning, adds immense value to the team.
