Our Seattle Campus
We help accelerate our scientists’ progress by providing them with some of the world’s finest research facilities, which are designed to promote cross-disciplinary collaboration. Our beautiful waterfront campus, framed by city and mountain views, encompasses state-of-the-art laboratories and shared research technologies; nimble, powerful information technology and data science infrastructure; and dedicated teams of specialized support staff who keep our research moving forward as quickly as possible.
Our more than 250,000 square feet of laboratory space includes the labs of principal investigators as well as high-tech core facilities available to all scientists. In 2020, a number of our teams moved into an additional 69,000 net usable square feet of space for labs, offices and support services in the nearby historic Lake Union Steam Plant building. The proximity strengthens existing collaborations and enables new connections to take our science to the next level. We continue to invest in facilities, equipment and technology and plan for longer-term faculty growth.
Committed to Environmental Sustainability
For the past 25 years we have planned, built, expanded and operated our campus with a commitment to sustainable and efficient use of resources. Along the way, we’ve earned dozens of awards for environmental leadership. Energy conservation, recycling and composting, water conservation and sustainable transportation are embedded in everything we do.

Energy Conservation
Fred Hutch buildings were designed for maximum efficiency and built using energy-smart construction. We continually upgrade our standards by implementing new conservation projects, which have achieved $2.3 million in energy savings annually, including:
- 23.2 million kilowatt hours of electricity
- 574,000 therms of natural gas
- 27.6 million gallons of water
